Our goal is to provide emergency shelter to the most vulnerable people in the LGBTQI+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Queer) community. To enter the Pride Shelter Trust (PST), residents must comply with mental health or substance use disorder (SUD) treatment plans, or engage in services provided by the Shelter. Gender is self-identified and clients will be placed with the gender they identify with (No cross- pollination).
Further details on admission
- Admission is only granted subject to availability of a bed, and based on an assessment of the psycho-social situation of the applicant and a case discussion by the Social Worker of the Shelter. And should a bed be available, said beneficiary will be placed accordingly.
- Admission and accommodation are granted on a three-month period only.
- In the case of a previous resident, admission is only allowed 9 months after previous exit from the shelter.
- All admission age shall be between the ages of 18 years to the age of 45 years.
- Client will produce a South African Identity Document or a certified copy thereof.
- All foreign nationals shall provide the Shelter with clear copies of their immigrant/refugee status and documents. The Shelter will not admit any applicants without the required documents to be present in South Africa although the Shelter acknowledge the crisis situation the applicant finds themselves in and if possible, will assist with a relevant referral.
- Foreign nationals may also approach the Shelter, with a letter from an approved institution or law faculty, confirming that they are in the process of applying/ renewing all required legal documents.
- All residents are expected to pay a daily Shelter fee to the amount of R50 (fifty Rand).
- All admissions are subject to a screening / interview process conducted by the Social Worker.
- Screening / interview process notes will be discussed with relevant staff members to conclude a decision, in the event of doubt by the social worker, or when making reference to the database.
- During intake, clients will be asked to dispose of any weapons, drugs, or alcohol, if they have any.
- Clients will sign a rules and regulations form acknowledging they understand expectations or their expectations will be read aloud to the client in the event the client cannot read. A copy will be issued to the client.
- Clients denied access to Shelter will be referred to other community / partner services.
